Before You Start

You need three things. If you do not have them yet, follow the links below in order.

1A Shopify store

You must be the store owner or have permission to install apps and approve order access.

2A WebWMS2u account

Your WebWMS2u account provides the WhatsApp connection and message credits.

3A WebWMS2u API key

The API key securely links this Shopify store to the WhatsApp route in your WebWMS2u account.

What does “linking” mean? Your Shopify and WebWMS2u usernames do not need to be the same. Shopify confirms which store you are authorised to manage; the WebWMS2u API key identifies the WebWMS2u account and WhatsApp connection that will send the messages.

One Shopify App, Multiple WhatsApp Routes

The WebWMS2u API key you select determines the connected WhatsApp route and the templates available in Shopify.

Personal WhatsApp

  • Use custom text or select any active Personal/Baileys template.
  • You may also select an active Meta template and send its saved content through the Personal route.
  • Saved templates can include text, image, video, audio or document media.
  • Meta template approval is not required when delivery is through Personal WhatsApp.
  • The connected Personal device must remain online and available.

Meta Cloud API or Coexistence

  • Use custom text only when WhatsApp permits it, normally during an open 24-hour customer-service window.
  • Outside that window, select a Meta template.
  • Only active, Meta-approved templates are shown for a Meta API key.
Simple rule: a Personal API key can use active Personal/Baileys and Meta templates. A Meta API key can use only active, approved Meta templates. The settings page loads the appropriate list automatically.

A key advantage

Manage One Store—or a Growing Portfolio

WebWMS2u is not limited to a single Shopify shop. An authorised user can connect additional stores and manage them from the Shopify Stores page.

  • See the stores linked to the current WebWMS2u member account.
  • Open an existing store or connect another permanent .myshopify.com address.
  • Use a different Personal or Meta API key for each shop when needed.
  • Keep administrator numbers, country codes, consent preferences and notification rules separate for every store.
  • Choose different templates for each store, order event and recipient.

Step-by-Step Setup

Most merchants can complete these steps without technical assistance.

1. Connect a WhatsApp number in WebWMS2u

Sign in to the WebWMS2u dashboard and connect the route you want to use: Personal WhatsApp, Meta Cloud API or WhatsApp Coexistence. Confirm that the number can send a test message before continuing.

2. Make sure you have a WebWMS2u API key

In your WebWMS2u dashboard, create an active Personal or Meta API key for the WhatsApp route you want to use. You will select the key securely after signing in; you do not need to paste it into Shopify or expose it in your browser.

3. Find your permanent Shopify store address

Use the permanent address ending in .myshopify.com, not your public shop domain. You can normally find it in Shopify Admin under Settings > Domains or in the browser address while managing the store.

Example: your-shop-name.myshopify.com

4. Connect and approve the Shopify app

Click the button below, enter the .myshopify.com address and sign in to Shopify if requested. Review the requested order access and approve the app. Webhook registration is completed automatically.

5. Link Shopify to your WebWMS2u member account

After Shopify approval, click Sign in and select an API key. Sign in to WebWMS2u, choose one of your existing active Personal or Meta keys, and submit. If you do not have a suitable key, WebWMS2u will direct you to create one. The selected key is transferred securely between the servers and is not placed in the browser address.

6. Enter the general settings

Enter the administrator WhatsApp number and confirm the default country code. The light-grey example number is only a guide and is not a saved value. Decide whether customer messages should require the Shopify cart opt-in attribute.

7. Choose notifications and templates

Customer and administrator notifications are separate for every order event. Enable only the rules you need and use the Template dropdown:

  • None — use custom text: sends the wording in the Custom text field.
  • A listed template: automatically uses that template instead of the custom text.
  • Administrator notifications: send alerts to the administrator number entered above.
  • Customer notifications: send updates to the usable phone number provided with the Shopify order.

Choosing a template automatically activates template mode; there is no separate mode switch to configure.

8. Decide whether cart opt-in is required

Enable Require the cart opt-in attribute before customer messages only after your Shopify theme is configured to collect that attribute. If enabled without a working cart opt-in field, customer messages will be skipped. Administrator alerts are not affected.

9. Save and test

Click Save settings, reopen the page and confirm the intended template is still selected for the exact event and recipient. Create a new test order in Shopify, wait a few seconds, confirm the WhatsApp message and review the app's message log.

Important: New order / Customer and New order / Administrator are different rules. Paid, Fulfilled, Cancelled, Refunded and Payment failed also keep their own selections.

Editing Your Messages

Use ordinary wording together with placeholders that are replaced using the Shopify order.

Administrator example

New Shopify order {order_name} received for {order_total}. Customer: {customer_name}.

If no customer name was entered on the order, {customer_name} displays “Customer”.

Available placeholders

{order_name}, {order_id}, {customer_name}, {order_total}, {currency}, {financial_status}, {fulfillment_status} and {shop_name}.

Using Saved Templates

The Shopify settings page displays the templates available to the API key linked to that shop.

Choose a template

Each dropdown shows the template ID, name, route/type and whether it contains text or stored media. Select None — use custom text when you do not want a template.

For a Personal API key, a saved image, video, audio file or document is sent together with its rendered template text. Media must be stored at a valid, publicly reachable HTTPS location.

Template parameters

Saved template variables use numbered fields such as {{1}} and {{2}}. Map them to Shopify placeholders using a JSON object.

{"1":"{customer_name}","2":"{order_name}"}

If the saved template contains no numbered variables, use:

{}

If a required numbered variable is missing, the request is rejected with TEMPLATE_PARAMETERS_MISSING. Extra parameters are unnecessary.

Important Notes

Cart consent boundary

Cart consent requires a compatible theme opt-in field. Accelerated checkouts that bypass the cart might not record it. Keep the requirement disabled until consent collection has been configured and tested.

Queued is not delivered

Queued confirms WebWMS2u accepted the request. Final delivery depends on the connection, recipient and WhatsApp rules. Check the message log for the latest status.

Common Questions

No. WebWMS2u hosts the Shopify connector. The merchant opens the connection page, approves the Shopify app, signs in to WebWMS2u and selects an API key. There is no ZIP package for the merchant to install.

After Shopify authentication, the merchant signs in to WebWMS2u and selects an active API key. The selected key identifies the WebWMS2u member account and WhatsApp route, while Shopify authentication separately identifies the shop. The raw key is transferred server-to-server and is not displayed in the browser address.

Yes, subject to your WebWMS2u plan, API-key limits and connected-number capacity. The Shopify Stores page lists the shops linked to the current member account and lets an authorised user open an existing shop or connect another .myshopify.com shop. Each shop keeps its own administrator number, opt-in preference and notification/template rules.

A Personal API key can select active Personal/Baileys templates and active Meta templates. When sent through Personal WhatsApp, Meta approval is not required because the saved content is delivered through the Personal route. A Meta API key can select only active, Meta-approved templates. Custom Meta text is subject to WhatsApp's customer-service-window rules.

The user must authenticate through Shopify and have access to the relevant store. Settings are stored separately for each .myshopify.com shop.

Check that the event is enabled, the order includes a usable phone number, the API key is correct, the WhatsApp connection is online, the Meta message mode is permitted and—if cart opt-in is required—the order contains the opt-in attribute.

Confirm that the template is selected for the exact event and recipient being tested, then save and reopen Settings. Customer and Administrator rules are separate. The selected template must remain active and available to the API key linked to that shop.

Yes. If the selected active template has stored image, video, audio or document media, the Personal route sends that media with the rendered template text. The stored file must be reachable over HTTPS. Check Message Logs if WebWMS2u rejects the media URL.
